Zechariah post exile. Israel needed hope. Zechariah provided hope. The KING is coming.

King Jesus arrives in Jerusalem. Jesus had authority over donkey and owners.

Jesus is steadfast. Sets his face like flint to go to Jerusalem. Single-minded. Focussed.

Physically he ENTERS Jerusalem. Theologically he ARRIVES in Jerusalem— the appointed place and time for his sacrificial death.

He fulfilled prophecy. Through reading the scriptures and communion with God he progressively understood the scriptures were talking about him.

By the age of 12 he knew this. He was their fulfilment. He confirmed this after his resurrection (Luke 24:27,44).

He was enthusiastically received. His miracles singled him out. His teachings were incomparable No man taught like him.

He received the adulation of his disciples. They did not understand he was to be crucified and raised from death. The multitude worshipped according to their level of understanding. Jesus received the praise of children. They did not understand all things but they gave their all to Jesus. What they understood they gave thanks for.

There was opposition to the enthusiasm (Luke 29:39). Beware of opposing the praise of Christ's disciples and little children (Luke 19:39; Matt.21:15).

Christ affects all people. You cannot remain neutral. At birth he stirred Jerusalem. At death also. He still stirs the hearts of those who believe in him.

Christ is identified as a prophet He is the Great Prophet. The Saviour. The KING. He is the ultimate prophet; the KING of kings.
