The manner of Jesus’s death.

He was submissive to the Father's will. He was submissive to evildoers. Reviled but did not revile in return.

He was forgiving and said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

He experienced anguish saying "my God my God, why have you forsaken me?” But he overcame anguish and had assurance— “Into your hands I commit my spirit.”

He gave assurance to others. He told the thief “today you will be with me in Paradise.”

He saw his mother and John saw standing by. Showed concern and said “woman, behold your son” and to John “behold, your mother”. Jesus ensured care for the two persons arguably nearest to him.

He was satisfied. He died saying "It is finished " His work on earth complete. Accomplished.

The manner of Jesus's death is commendable. The way Jesus died is the way we should live. Imagine if people lived as Jesus died. The world would be better for it.

The meaning of Jesus's death.

Substitutionary. While we were sinners and without strength Jesus died in our place. One man sinned in Eden. One man saved at Golgotha. Many sacrifices in the Old Testament; one sacrifice in the New Testament. By his death Jesus forgives, saves, and reconciles us to our Creator.

What should our response be? Faith. Believe in Jesus for forgiveness of sins.

At Calvary although Jesus was surrounded by unbelievers yet some people believed. Two thieves: one believed; one rejected. Both had same opportunity. Centurion believed. Women standing at a distance believed.

Today is opportunity to believe.
