Christ and Moses: Part 1 (Luke 24:27, 44-49; Revelation 12:7-17)

The Old Testament speaks of Jesus. This is what he boldly claimed. Was he insane? Or was he the most egotistical person who ever lived? If neither, then who is he? “What think ye of Christ?”
Both Moses and Christ in their infancy were subject to murderous Satanic attacks. Pharaoh sought the life of baby Moses. King Herod sought the life of infant Jesus.
Moses was a special baby. He was destined to be a mighty leader of the Hebrews. Jesus was a special child. An angel revealed this to Joseph (Matt.1:20). Both Jesus and Moses were providentially protected.
Why did the devil seek to kill Moses and Christ? It was because both had a special place in God’s plan of redemption. The devil hates redemption.
Moses received the Ten Commandments—the moral law of God. By the law comes the knowledge of sin. Satan tried to kill Moses because through the law people would see their need of a Saviour. Do not be surprised at the devil’s murderous intentions.
There is need to preach God’s moral law. God’s moral law reveals God’s holiness. All have sinned and are unholy. All must repent.
There is a spiritual war going on. This battle was evident as early as Eden. Cain murdered his brother Abel. Cain was of the wicked one. Cain’s deeds were evil. His brother’s were righteous. As early as Eden there was murder in the air.
Christ, like Moses, was also the target of the devil’s attacks. King Herod ordered the murder of Hebrew boys. The devil is a murderer from the beginning. No surprise he seeks to destroy God’s purpose of redemption in its early stages. He targeted baby Moses. He targeted infant Jesus. He will strike early when the church experiences seasons of blessing. Do not be ignorant of his devices.
The devil’s assault continued beyond Moses and Christ. In Revelation 12:13-17 we are taught his onslaught extends to those who have the testimony of Jesus Christ, that is, the Christian church.
The universal church through the ages has been involved in spiritual warfare and the devil’s onslaught. Spiritual warfare may be physical, mental or both. Physical, when believers are bodily harmed. Mental, when believers are mentally attacked.
Believers will survive the devil’s onslaught. Moses survived. Christ survived. The Christian church survives. Moses led Israel to the promised land. Christ Jesus leads his people to heaven.
Praise the Lord for the certain survival of believers. The devil may assail, but the church shall prevail. To God be the glory!
