Stop Worrying, Start Trusting (Luke 12:22-34)

Sermon Summary

Sunday 2/2/25

Pastor David Yan

Jesus does not want his followers to worry. His message is to stop worrying. Stress and worry are part of life but there is no need to be fatigued. Have faith in God for faith overcomes fatigue.

Life is more than food and clothing. God provides. The Israelites were provided for in the wilderness. Elijah was cared for in the wilderness. The apostles were cared for as they preached the gospel. Have heavenly priorities and earthly provisions will be met.

Consider the birds. They are fed each day. They do not gather into barns. God feeds them. Birds are inferior to humans. If God feeds the lesser he shall certainly feed the greater, that is, human beings, who are created in the image of God.

Worrying is futile. You cannot add to your height. All your worry will not change circumstances. But pray always and do not lose heart (Luke 18:1).

Consider the flowers. They have beauty and then they die. They are more beautiful than all the beauty of Solomon’s glory. Now, you are clothed with more beauty than the flowers and unlike the flowers you will not perish.

God your heavenly Father knows your needs even before you ask him (Matt.6:8). What confidence we ought to have. Since God is for us let us praise him, trust him and serve him all the days of our lives. Worship, not worry, should be our testimony.

Do not be like those who do not have faith. The lives of unbelievers are dominated by the things of this life. But not so believers. You have been separated from the ideas of this world. Make sure this distinction is clear in your hearts.

Seek God’s kingdom above all else. All your needs shall be given to you. God’s kingdom is spiritual. Its focus is on salvation through Jesus Christ and the life hereafter. Earthly matters shall be attended to if heavenly matters are attended to first.
