Sermon Summary Sunday

Moses was a man of great faith. Learn from him.

Observe the input of his godly parents. We do not know Moses’ age when he entered Pharaoh daughter’s household but we may be sure his parents instilled in him that he was a Hebrew and that God had spoken to his forefathers about the coming Messiah. See here the importance of godly parents. See also Moses’ faithfulness to God’s Messianic purposes.

Observe Moses’ rejection of worldly status. He was the adopted son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He had privilege and power. But he refused to be called a child of Pharaoh’s daughter. Moses was a Hebrew living in a foreign land. It’s not easy to belong to two worlds. Moses’ heart was divided but he chose affliction and identified with his oppressed people.

Moses regarded the reproach of Jesus greater than the riches of Egypt. Most people choose riches. Moses chose reproach. You have a choice --- the riches of Christ or the riches of the world. You cannot serve God and money. It’s either Messiah or mammon.

Moses kept the Passover. The blood of the Passover lamb protected Israel from divine wrath. The blood of Jesus protects the church (believers) from that same wrath. The world lies under the wrath of God. Divine wrath is appeased once and for all by the sacrifice of the God-man, Jesus Christ. He died once and that was enough.

Moses saw the invisible. He saw Christ. Moses, in seeing the invisible, was elevated above earthly cares. Jesus kept his eyes on the invisible. He came to do the Father’s will. He was heavenly-minded. We also must be heavenly-minded. If you have been raised with Jesus keep seeking the things above.

Moses points us to Jesus. Jesus, like Moses had God-fearing parents. Jesus, like Moses rejected worldliness and chose affliction. Jesus, like Moses kept his eyes on spiritual things.

Jesus fulfilled the Passover. He is the Passover lamb slain for the sins of his people. Are you sheltering under his provision? Are you safe from divine wrath? Come today and trust in Jesus, the one of whom Moses spoke.
