Sermon Summary

Solomon was instructed to build the Jewish temple.

Solomon is a type of Jesus Christ. Jesus was sent to build his temple which is the spiritual church.

Solomon was a chosen vessel. Jesus also was a chosen vessel. He was set apart to save his people from their sins.

Solomon was given the means to build the temple. He was given the plans to build it. He had gold. He had a huge work force. Jesus had the means to build his church. He had the blessing of heaven to do the work.

He himself sent out workers and gave them means to do the work. The greatest provision Christians have for the furtherance of the gospel is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus himself went about the work of the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Solomon had grace to carry out the work. He was given wisdom and understanding. Jesus was endued with all wisdom and understanding. His servants today need similar wisdom and understanding to serve him well.

It was required of Solomon to obey the law of God. He was not perfect but he did follow the Lord. Jesus was without fault. He obeyed the law of God to perfection. He was blameless. His servants must also be blameless.

Solomon was given a specific people to rule over – the nation of Israel. Jesus was given a specific people – the church. He came to save and gather the household of God.

Solomon’s work would prosper. He completed the temple. Jesus’ work shall prosper. He shall see the travail of his soul and be satisfied. All over the world today there are Christian churches. Despite persecution the church continues steadfastly. It shall not be destroyed.

Jesus came to build the household of God and he is succeeding. Rejoice in this. Are you part of this household? Repent of your sins and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Be a family-member; not a stranger.
