God’s New Creation (Revelation 21:1-8; Isaiah 43:16-21)
Sermon Summary

The apostle John exhorts readers to “Behold”, that is, to pay attention to prophecy. The prophecy? God is going to create a new heaven and a new earth. Be ready. The old is passing away; the new is to come.
The old creation was “very good” but it was vulnerable to demonic activity. It shall be surpassed in excellence by the new creation. The new shall be better than the old. It shall be free from evil.
The new creation will be inhabited by believers described as the “New Jerusalem”. These believers are redeemed by Jesus. They shall inherit the earth.
The new creation will see the reversal of Eden’s curse. In the new creation there shall be no tears, death, sorrow, or crying. These things will pass away. Jesus makes all things new.
God shall dwell with believers. He shall tabernacle with them. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve heard the sound of the Lord walking in the Garden. But in the new creation believers shall not just hear the Lord but see him as he is. They shall be like Jesus.
The author of the new creation is God himself. Note the pronoun “I”. The Lord himself brings the new creation into existence without the aid of any human.
He brings the new heaven and earth into existence by his power. The same power that created the old creation shall create the new creation. But there is a difference. In the new creation Jesus Christ shall be better known because of his redemptive work. Redemption came not before the fall but after the fall. After we fell and been redeemed we appreciate Christ because of his redemption. We love him because he first loved us.
Jesus makes everything new. The new creation is for everyone. The Christian faith is for the entire human race. The earth was created for humans to dwell on. But it was spoiled by sin. The new creation is unspoiled and shall be inhabited by people cleansed by the blood of Christ.
But there is a warning. Some people will not be part of the new creation. They are the likes of the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers who do not repent of their sins and trust in Jesus for salvation.
In light of God’s new creation let us look beyond earthly things. Set your mind on things above not on things on the earth. Seek the things of heaven where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Let us be renewed each day for the Lord’s mercies are new each day. If any one is in Christ that person is a new creation. A glorious future awaits citizens of the new creation
