Jesus, Our Passover Lamb (Exodus 12:1-13; Revelation 5:6-14)
Sermon Summary

The Hebrew Passover was divinely prescribed and just like a doctor’s pre scription, it was to be strictly followed.
It required the sacrifice of a lamb. The lamb had to be one year old, a male without blemish. Its blood was splashed on to the door of Hebrew houses but not on Egyptian houses. When the Lord saw the blood he would pass over the Hebrew houses but in every Egyptian house, unmarked by blood, the first-born would be killed.
These are the Biblical facts. But what do they mean?
From the New Testament we understand that the Passover Lamb is Christ Jesus (1 Cor.5:7). John the Baptist, who was the link between the Old and New Testaments, declared Jesus to be the Lamb of God (John 1:36).
Note that John the Baptist declared that Jesus, the Lamb of God, takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). This is significant. In the Hebrew Passover only Hebrews were saved, but in the gospel age the Lamb of God is for the whole world. Christianity is universal.
In Revelation, the last book of the Bible, Jesus the Lamb of God is mentioned several times.
He is finally exalted. He is not just the Lamb slain, but the Lamb exalted.
On earth, Jesus the Lamb of God, became separated from his disciples but in heaven he shall be united with them (Rev.19:7-9). On earth Jesus was slain. In heaven he lives forever (Rev.5:6,13). On earth he was humiliated, but in heaven he is exalted --- Lord of lords and King of kings (Rev.17:14). On earth he was cursed; in heaven, he is praised (Rev.5:9-14). On earth his first followers were Jews; in heaven his followers come from every tribe, tongue, people and nation (Rev.5:9). In heaven, Jesus the Lamb of God reigns. Hallelujah.
There is only one designated Saviour --- Jesus, the Lamb of God.
If you want life, the house of your soul must be covered by the blood of the Lamb of God.
When the Lord saw the blood on the doors of the Hebrew houses he passed over and did not destroy. When the Lord God looks upon the world he sees his Son, not sinners. We are covered by the blood of the Passover Lamb. To be hidden by the Lamb of God is to be hidden from the wrath of God.
Crucially, are you covered by the blood of the Lamb?
