God's Provisions For Life's Necessities (Exodus 15:22-27)
Sermon Summary

Water is a necessity. Without it we die. Israel was without water after three days in the wilderness. It was a life-threatening situation. Jesus was three days in a state of death. Was there to be life after three days? Yes. Jesus was raised after three days.
Israel was given water after three days. Israel had come to some water. But the water was bitter. Not all water is drinkable. Some water is poisonous just as false teaching is poisonous to the soul.
The Lord showed Moses a tree. Moses was to cast this tree into the water. The tree was a life-giving tree. It was not any tree but a particular tree. Isra el’s saviour was particular. The Christian’s Saviour is particular. He is Jesus Christ. He was, as it were, cast into a polluted world and would purify it.
The bitter water was made pure. How sweet it was to dehydrated Israel. How sweet is the water of salvation through Jesus. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8).
God made a covenant and statute wth Israel. Israel was to formally remem ber God’s provision of life. Christians also remember God’s provision of life when they partake of the Lord’s Supper to recall the sacrificial death of Jesus and his triumphant resurrection.
The Israelites journeyed to Elim. They found twelve wells of water and sev enty palm trees. Israel must now labour to draw water. Earlier God worked extraordinarily to give water but now Israel must work to draw water.
The lesson for us is to trust in the Lord to provide for all the necessities of life. He can do so extraordinarily but also ordinarily when he requires us to work with what he provides.
Jesus taught that our heavenly Father knows all our needs (Matthew 6:32) even before we ask him (Matthew 6:8).
The Lord provided water for Israel by a life-giving tree. He provides life for us by life-giving Jesus. Jesus is the water of life (John 4:14). Whoever drinks of his water shall never thirst but have everlasting life (John 4:14).
Trust the Lord God who shall provide for all the necessities of life.
