The world needs reconciliation— reconciliation between husbands and wives, children and parents, sibling and sibling, nations and nations. Supremely, people need to be reconciled to God our creator.

We need reconciliation to God because our sin has separated us from our sinless creator.

Here in 2 Cor. 5:20-21 there is a plea for reconciliation to God.

Plea From Whom.

  • From God our creator. He is not an idol, not a god of human imagination. He is our maker. *From God who communicates. He is not silent. The Bible is his word to us and he is making a plea.

  • From God who does not violate human freedom. He pleads. We have free choice.

  • From God who gives us opportunity to be reconciled. The door to reconciliation is open.

Plea Through Whom

  • Jesus; Apostles; Ministers. Today, through Christians to the world.

Plea To Whom

  • To Christians in Corinth. A problem church. Christians must search their hearts to see if they are honouring God in their conduct. There may be need for reconciliation.

  • To all non-Christians Everybody needs to be reconciled to God.

Basis of Plea

Jesus Christ. He took our sins. He took the curse. He is the only way to be reconciled. God takes all our sins and puts them on Jesus. He takes all his righteousness and puts it on us. A great exchange. Christ our substitution. Christ the only way to be reconciled. Otherwise there is a travesty — a mockery of justice, given what Christ has done.

The Desired Result of Plea

That people become the righteousness of God in Christ. This means God accepts us as righteous. We are not yet perfect but he accredits us with righteousness. We are accepted (justified).

What if you have needs e.g. employment, money, food, shelter, and you feel reconciliation is irrelevant to your need?

Priority. Seek God's kingdom first and all necessary things will be given to you. Faith first; food, etc., second. Will you trust him?

God will never leave you nor forsake you. He is faithful to his reconciled people.

Come now. Be reconciled to God. Today, not tomorrow, is the day of reconciliation. Once reconciled you will experience the goodness of God in your life.
