Israel had to trudge through the wilderness. Life can be a wilderness—a great trudge. Does God care for his people?

Yes, he does. Deuteronomy 2:8 is about having assurance that God does care.

He cares for us by preparing us for trials. The Lord blessed Israel in all the work of their hands so Israel was prepared for its time in the wilderness. Jesus was well-prepared before he started his ministry. The Lord prepares us to face life’s trials. His grace is sufficient to see us through.

Israel had the means to buy food from neighbouring countries. They were able to pay their way through life. God’s people are blessed; they are not beggars. They are given enough to live with dignity. Jesus had neither house nor money but was provided for.

God knows all about Israel’s trudging through the wilderness. The church does not proceed by chance but by providence. The Lord knows our plight and is not indifferent to our situation. The heavenly Father knew all about the plight of Jesus and Jesus was in constant prayer before him.

The wilderness is a great wilderness. It is inhospitable. It is no friend to God’s pilgrims. Jesus felt the rejection of the world. His people also feel the world’s rejection. Christians are just passing through. The world is not our resting place. We are citizens of heaven.

God knew the exact time of Israel’s trudging through the wilderness. It was 40 years. This time was set. For three years Jesus ministered to a fallen world. It was an ordained three year period. Our trials are not only known to the Lord but their duration is fixed by God. There is an end in sight to all our trials.

Israel lacked nothing during its trudging through the wilderness. Every need was supplied by the Lord God. Christians trust in the Lord and their needs are met. He gives us what we need, not what we want. He will not forsake us.

Learn the lesson that the Lord cares for us. What a blessing it is to know that our God shall supply all our needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). You may be trudging through a wilderness in your life but remember God cares for you. He will supply all that you need. Trust the Lord and you will lack nothing.
