God is almighty. Therefore he can do everything. Anything less than this would make him less than God. But our God is truly God. He is able.

Job declared this timeless truth when he said that God can do everything (42:2). But Job did not always know this truth. He came to understand it through his suffering. Suffering is hurtful for a while but they are good for us just as the Psalmist declared in Psalm 119:71 “It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I my learn your statutes.” The deep things of God are learned by deep adversities. We should not despise the Lord's chastening.

Job in his suffering reasoned against his adversity. But when God spoke Job's arguments, like all human arguments, ceased. Job is silenced when God speaks and challenges him. God moves when our tongues are stilled.

Job acknowledges that there is one true God and no other. He says “You," meaning the one who has been communicating with him, that is, the God of creation, the Redeemer. Multiple gods in the mind make for a muddled mind.

Job has assurance that God can do everything. He declares "I know”. Some things are learned intellectually and some things are learned spiritually. Job knows from the depths of his being that truly God can do everything.

No purpose of God can be withheld from him. Whatever he wills shall come to fruition. The Lord willed that Job should experience affliction and this came to pass. Job has come to accept that God had a purpose for his sufferings. Do not fight against God; yield to him.

Satan sought to frustrate God's will but he failed. The devil desires the damnation of the soul but Christ has come to save the soul. His plan has prevailed. At Calvary Jesus died to save the soul and people all through the ages have come to believe in and love Jesus Christ for this salvation.

Salvation of the soul is a great work and Jesus has accomplished this great work. He can do everything. Be assured your Redeemer has accomplished salvation. Rest in him. He has done it all. All to him you owe. Let your trials be instrumental to your seeing this. Like Job, confess the sovereignty of God; worship and adore him.
