Christ Died for Our Sins (1 Corinthians 15:3)

Sermon Summary

Pastor David Yan

2 April 2021 - Good Friday

The Corinthian church had serious problems. Paul’s desire is that they should know the mercies of God and that they should repent of their sins.

Forgiveness was possible because of God’s provision of a Saviour—the Messiah.

Christ is the Messiah — the anointed one. There is no other Messiah. Christ is the only person singled out in this way and declared to be the anointed one.

Christ died but once. No further deaths. His death was actual. He did not faint or fake death. He really died.

Christ died for the sins of all believers. There were great sins in the Corinthian church. Christ died for sins that we might be forgiven and get our lives right.

Christ died according to the scriptures. His death was foretold. He fulfilled prophecy.

Since Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures we should accept:
(1) the incarnation, that is God has come in the flesh;
(2) the substitutionary death of Jesus, that is, Christ died on our behalf;
(3) the testimony of the Bible, that is it is God revealing salvation to us.

The gospel stands alone. It needs no embellishments. It is God’s power to save sinners.

Be encouraged. Your sins are forgiven. Christ has died for them. But now examine yourselves to see if you are in the faith and living a life that is worthy of your calling.
