The prophecies of Jesus are remarkable. He foretold what the world would be like at his second coming. He called his followers to be faithful servants while he is away. But who is the faithful person?
The faithful servant willingly assumes responsibility. In Matthew 24:45-51 the ruler of the household instructs his servant to carry out his duties. Faithful people carry responsibilities.
Jesus was the most faithful servant of all. He accepted the responsibility of coming into a fallen world to save people.
Satan opposed this coming. He used King Herod to slaughter boys. The devil seeks to disrupt and destroy faithfulness.
The faithful servant will fulfil his responsibility. Jesus did this. On the cross he cried out "It is finished." He discharged his responsibility. But note the devil had tried to stop Jesus from fulfilling his duty. He tempted Jesus three times. But Jesus resisted and triumphed.
The faithful servant will gain promotion. The ruler gives to his servant charge over all his goods.
So Jesus is exalted. His name is above all other names. He is enthroned at the seat of all authority. But even here we note the devil's schemes. He seeks to usurp the authority of Jesus and sit on the throne himself (Rev. 12:1-4).
In contrast to the faithful servant is the unfaithful or evil servant. This person manifests all that is ungodly. He does not believe the master’s word. He is abusive to fellow servants. He mixes with drunkards and is worldly.
Whereas the end of the faithful servant is promotion the end of the unfaithful servant is destruction. You will either be with Jesus in heaven or be with those who weep and gnash their teeth.
Jesus tells us what will happen in the future. He challenges us to sort out our position. Either you are the faithful servant or the evil one. Where do you stand?
