Numbers 9:15-23; 10:1-10

Numbers is about Israel in the wilderness. Israel is heading for Canaan (promised land). But how will she get there? The Lord is committed to Israel (covenantal relationship) & will guide her.

How did the Lord guide Israel to the promised land?

(1) Extraordinarily by pillar of cloud and fire (9:15-23).
(2) Ordinarily, by word of Moses and trumpet calls (10:1-10).

Once Israel was in the promised land guidance by pillar of cloud and fire ceased and guidance by word (Joshua’s) took prededence. Later when Israel erred it was again by word that it was guided (e.g. word of the prophets Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah).

Jesus is our guide (Lk 1:78,79; Jn 10:3,4; 16:13ff.) Today, he guides us by Bible and Spirit. How does he guide us by Bible? We must accept its authority, be familiar with its theology, make wise decisions, look for providential answers, and pray for peace of mind.

The conclusion is: JESUS WILL GUIDE HIS PEOPLE BY HIS WORD SAFELY TO THEIR HEAVENLY INHERITANCE

Scriptures

...you...are kept by the pwer of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:5).

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials (1 Peter 1:6).
