Stand Up, Speak Up, And Explain (Isaiah 40:9-11)

Our God is full of compassion. Even though he disciplines and chastises his people yet he cares for them. Israel experienced his care in the days of Isaiah. In the midst of troubles with surrounding empires like Assyria and Babylon threatening her, Israel was comforted by God. God’s comfort came via people proclaiming good tidings.

Prepare For The Coming Glory Of The Lord (Isaiah 40:3-5).

Israel was under pressure from Assyria and Babylon the nations which the Lord raised up to chastise her for her sins. But amidst Israel’s chastisement the Lord spoke words of comfort to her. Her comfort was to be found, not in her military might or her land, but in him. His glory would be revealed to Israel (40:5).

The Lord Comforts His Forgiven People (Isaiah 40:1-2)

People in distress need comfort. Israel was no exception. She was distressed as she was being chastised for her sins. God, through the prophet Isaiah speaks comfort to Israel (40:1,2). After chastisement comes consolation. But God’s comfort comes in God’s time and in his way.

The Israelites rebel & refuse to enter promised land. God threatens judgment. Moses intercedes for Israel. Numbers 14:11-25 teaches us the nature of intercessory prayer. Moses is impassioned with prayer.
